ABOUT ME
Kerri Healy Nitzenberger
Ever since I was born, I've had a strong love for horses. Growing up going to the barn daily with my mom, I knew early on that I wanted to dedicate my life to horses. I grew up riding at Wellspring Farm, in Wilmington Delaware, where they have a great program allowing you to work to ride; giving everyone an equal opportunity to share their love of horses. At Wellspring Farm, I learned how to ride many different types of ponies and horses, and all about their daily care. In addition I learned about shows and competitions, starting young horses and helping teach young kids to ride.
As a young teen, I started training with Melvin Dutton who quickly became a mentor for me. He taught and encouraged me to continue my education with horses. Melvin taught me how to ride different types of horses, from show hunters to difficult youngsters. There I was able to learn great skills and techniques to start young horses, compete in show hunters/jumpers, and become a professional braider and body clipper.
After graduating school I was hired by Iron Springs Farm, a breeding and sales facility, to start their young horses. During this time, I ventured into the steeple chase racing and fox hunting world becoming Kathy Nielson's assistant steeplechase trainer and a member of Cheshire Hunt. I continue to learn with many trainers learning different techniques to broaden and expand my knowledge; including KC VanDyke, Melvin Dutton, Jane Sleeper, Michael Walton, Linda Zang, and Phillip Dutton.
